BENNIE LABUSCHAGNE - DIRECTOR


Bennie is an Associate Director at Cyanre. Bennie was formerly responsible for managing the computer forensic division of Computer Security and Forensic Solutions (PTY) Ltd. Prior to this, Bennie was in the service of the South African Police Services (SAPS) for 7 years. He was trained by the SAPS in computer forensic investigations and as such was one of the founding members of the computer forensic investigation capacity of the SAPS. Bennie was responsible for conducting computer forensic investigations, throughout South Africa. He has a wide range of experience in the investigation and prosecution of all types of computer crimes, including commercial crime, ECT (Electronic Communication and Transaction Act) transgressions, departmental transgressions to name a few.

Bennie received training in computer crime, internet and hacking investigations by the SAPS, CSFS as well as Cyanre and the Access Data FTK Bootcamp. He is one of approximately 6 experts in SA who is internationally qualified as an ACE (AccessData Certified Examiner). Due to the fact that cyber forensics is a relatively new science, Bennie dedicates considerable time to research and studying of international standards and investigation methodology used by Forensic Companies and Law Enforcement Agencies around the world.

Bennie testified in the Mariette Douvenga (Du Plessis) case, which was the first conviction in South Africa on the contravention of the Electronic and Communication and Transaction Act and as such is one of a few experts who have testified in the High Court as an expert witness on electronic evidence.
